Balancing Act

The project involves a self-balancing, moving sculpture that has two counteracting forces to balance and imbalance the structure. Our goal was to create a system that included a 3pi robot that randomly moved the whole unit and a geared DC motor on top of a freely rotating platform that would sense the change in tilt of the unit and react accordingly. The prototype is autonomous because it balances and imbalances itself in a cycle; the bottom robot is always randomly moving and the top vehicle turns only in response to the change in angle produced as the freely rotating platform swings.
