Introducing Seldom Seen, where an abandoned coal mine at historic Nuttallburg has been reclaimed as an adventure sports experience. It transports visitors to a magical realm where adrenaline is tested, history is celebrated, and important family memories are made. Seldom Seen is nestled deep in a lush forest, where visitors stumble upon a series of trails that delve into the tales and legends that once played out amongst those same trees. Soon, they reach the Headhouse, where an unforgettable journey awaits them – a ride down the face of the mountain in the original conveyor of the mine, where smart glass projections tell the story of Seldom Seen’s past. Awaiting them at the bottom of the conveyor is a world of adventure where a variety of sports, food, sights, and experiences put the beauty of West Virginia’s New River Gorge on full display.

The project was conceived by the Carnegie Mellon University Team and created for the 2018 Walt Disney Imagineering’s Imaginations Design Competition.
