Criminal Rehabilitation Center

Neighborhood criminal rehabilitation center located in Canton neighborhood in Baltimore Maryland, which acts as a platform for conversations about racial inequality in the criminal justice system. It is not surprising that racial tensions are found in Baltimore due to demographic changes between neighborhoods. A divide has been created within Baltimore, and this project is found at its thresholds. Thresholds are not only areas to pass through from one place to another, but also areas to keep two places apart. Its important that the threshold between the community and the re-entrants is maintained. The connection via the mechanic's shop and the street art wall gives a sense of person hood back to the re-entrants even though they don't have privacy or ownership. The building's materiality and massing seek to fit into the context of the neighborhood to create a sense of belonging.
